Summary and Narrative Style

Under the slogan "UPRISE - EARTH AND WATER" the organizers of the film festival payed tribute to the water protectors of the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation who fight for clean water and against an oil pipeline under the Missouri River.
The film revolves around the topics of "water" and "land" and shows that these elements are essential for indigenous worldview and for the lives of Native Americans.

Background

„American Indians and Inuit: the North America Film Festival“ takes place every two years being the only film festival of this kind in Europe.
Most of the “Indian” films and Westerns are using clichés and stereotypes when depicting Native Americans, frequently ignoring their history and social reality. The festival has therefore set up the mission to provide a platform to filmmakers who want to foster authentic indigenous world views and everyday realities.
